Location

Igombe village is located in Kagoma County, Jinja District, Eastern Uganda. It is 24 Kilometers (15 Miles) on the Jinja-Kamuli Road, just south of Buwenge. This is a rural area with a disadvantaged population in terms of accessibility to reading materials.  

None of the more than 70 Primary schools, and over 30 secondary schools in the area, with a total population of well over 60,000 pupils and approximately 1500 teachers, have an effective school library. In the few schools which have reading rooms, the rooms are stocked with irrelevant out of date magazines, newspapers and pamphlets. The nearest public library is in Jinja town, 24 kilometres away.
